CompVersions was founded by Marc Gayle in April of 2011. The application is designed to make it easier for designers and others to receive feedback from clients and anyone else related to a project. The current version lets users display images side by side so the viewer can see them up close and compare easily. Comments can be left and the user can vote on which images they like and which they hate.
CompVersions is a unique application because of the way it displays images. There are many applications that let users upload and share images on the web. Although these can work for some professionals, they leave a lot to be desired when comparing specific images. CompVersions gives the user the ability to select images, position them side by side and send them off as a group to a client for review. Clients can easily respond with a comment to help speed up the design and collaboration process.
Some users may be a little confused by CompVersions at first. The application is very clean and attractive in terms of style and design, however it doesn’t explain much. An un-narrated video helps the user learn more by observing the comparison process. Users who jump right into the dashboard may be a bit uncertain as they navigate the four boxes presented for images, stages, projects and clients. It takes a few minutes, but after that, most users will find CompVersions to be easy to navigate.
A new user can try CompVersions by clicking the orange “Start Free Trial” button found along the left hand side of the homepage. The user must select from one of the four plans presented to the right. After doing so, the user is directed to the registration form which requires a username, first and last name, password and email address. After submitting the form, the user is advised that a confirmation message was sent to their email address and must be accessed to start using CompVersions.
All users are given access to CompVersions features. The application offers four membership plans based on the number of clients the user manages. The first is a Freelancer account which includes up to five clients, unlimited projects and 50 MBs of storage space for $9 per month. The Boutique plan costs $19 per month and upgrades to include 10 clients and 100 MBs of storage space. The Small Agency plan costs $29 per month and includes up to 20 clients and 150 MBs of storage space. The Large Agency plan permits unlimited clients and 250 MBs of storage space for $49 per month.
CompVersions.com is intended for anyone who works with images, such as designers. The application makes it easy for users to share different versions of an image to get the opinion of a client, team member or any other significant person. Users can easily share their comparisons and the client never has to log in to view images, leave comments or vote on their favorite images.
